History

Lovranska Draga is a picturesque village situated in the Učka Nature Park, on the eastern slopes of the eponymous mountain. Until twenty years ago, agriculture, especially wine growing and cattle rearing, particularly sheep, where the main activities of the inhabitants of Lovranska Draga. In addition to wine, the fertile soil produced also fruit and vegetables, the most important of which nowadays are cherries and the typical brown chestnuts, locally known as matrons. The scattered houses are connected by old paths and trails, the most prominent of which are those connecting the villages of the area with the Medveja valley and the sea. The women of Lovranska Draga used to walk daily to Lovran carrying firewood, milk and vegetables. At the entrance to Lovranska Draga stands the baroque chapel of St. Michael’s, the patron saint of the village. The surrounding slopes are covered by terrace vineyards and meadows set against the backdrop of the highest peaks of Učka, thus creating a landscape of special value. Trough the village runs a stream, which the inhabitants simply call -The Stream-. Its most interesting feature in the waterfall, one of the most spectacular of its kind in Učka Nature Park, which can be visited by walking a specially designed trail.
